Jorge
Torres, originally from Wheeling, Illinois, graduated with a degree
in economics from the University of Colorado. During high school,
Jorge won the Footlocker National Championships, as well as three
Illinois state titles in cross-country. In 2002, Jorge became just
the third American in the previous 15 years to capture the NCAA individual
cross-country title. In his first professional season, Jorge made
the finals of the 5000m at the World Championships, the only American
to do so. Jorge suffered a serious injury that has hindered his early
season preparation, but feels confident that his strength will come
around in time to be a factor at the Trials, and make his first Olympic
Team.
